Neil Goldsmith counsels employers on labor relations issues and handles complex employment litigation matters and day-to-day advising questions for large and small companies both locally and nationally. Neil takes a pragmatic, proactive approach in his practice, always keeping his clients’ business priorities and risk tolerance in mind when advising on litigation strategy and employee relations issues. He has worked with clients across several industries including health care, manufacturing, retail, food service, agribusiness, energy, transportation, hospitality, and higher education.

Neil has successfully defended employers before state and federal trial and appellate courts, the National Labor Relations Board, Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, U.S. Department of Labor, Minnesota Department of Human Rights, Minnesota Department of Labor and Industry, Minneapolis Department of Civil Rights, St. Paul Department of Human Rights, and numerous state and local agencies.

Neil has developed a unique expertise in traditional labor law. He has represented unionized companies in labor arbitrations and collective bargaining across the country. Neil regularly represents nonunionized companies in union campaigns and in unfair labor practice proceedings before the National Labor Relations Board. He provides regular training and counseling on various labor law topics.

Neil also helps employers navigate difficult employment matters, including discrimination/harassment charges and litigation, noncompete issues and related litigation, whistleblower/retaliation lawsuits, wage and hour compliance, and leave, accommodation, and disability issues.

Neil regularly drafts and advises on key employment-related documents, such as handbooks, policies, employment agreements, non-compete agreements, and independent contractor agreements. He also routinely provides HR training to clients on how to prevent and respond to harassment and discrimination in the workplace.

Before joining Gray Plant Mooty, Neil practiced at a large international law firm that specializes in labor and employment law.
